Bearly Awake! Bear Identification

Spring has sprung, and the fuzzy Ursus teddies are out and about again. The first grizzly sighting of the year in Montana was spotted in Yellowstone the first week in March, and many more sightings of bears had followed. I thought it would be a great time to share a little information about how to identify the different bears, so you know what you’re dealing with if you run into one. Please know that for the most part, the bears want nothing more to do with us than we want to do with them, and the vast majority are peaceful and uneventful. This time of year however, the bears are hungry and the sows with cubs can be more protective than normal, so carry your bear spray, make lots of noise, and enjoy the wild!
